How to Create a Lesson Transcript

Follow these steps to create a transcript file from your lesson recording:

  1. Record your lesson using the voice recorder app on your laptop. Make sure the laptop is close to where you are teaching from and pointed towards you and the class for the best recording.
  2. Open Microsoft Word, go to 'Dictate' in the Home ribbon and select 'Transcribe'.
  3. Upload your audio file and Word will transcribe it for you.
  4. Identify yourself in the transcript by selecting part of the transcription that was said by you and change the label to 'Teacher', making sure to select 'Change all Speaker #'.
  5. Add the transcription to your document using the 'Add to Document' button at the bottom and select 'With speakers and timestamps'.
  6. Save the file as 'Plain Text (.txt)'.
  7. Upload your text file to Copilot with this prompt:.

Replace each name (except 'teacher') with ‘pupil #’ where each occurrence of the same name uses the same number, but otherwise numbers are used sequentially.

  8. Save the file that Copilot produces. Now your file is ready to upload to Elenchus.
Tip: For better transcription quality, speak clearly during your lesson and try to minimize background noise.
